Oh no! Your elf got touched and now they can't move! What to do?
We've had this happen a few times at our house and we know exactly what to do to help your elf feel better and get back to their silly, happy, and sometimes messy self!
As you may know, touching your elf makes them lose some of their Christmas magic. This will come back over time, but without intervention it could take days! We have so little time with it elves that we have to make them feel better as soon as we can. Here's how:
1) Apologize
The first thing you or your children (preferably whoever touched them) need to do is apologize to them in a heartfelt way. Apologies can't take back what happened, but they can do a lot to begin the healing process.
2) If Possible, Safely Move your Elf
If your elf was accidentally touched, chances are they are in great danger of being touched again. An adult can carefully grab the elf with tongs or a box. Move them to a high, isolated location to rest and recover. If they can't be moved, try to create a safe space for them where they are. You could cover them with a box or jar, or block off the area.
3) Sprinkle cinnamon
Cinnamon contains trace amounts of Christmas magic and this trick works like well, magic! Sprinkle the cinnamon near your elf, making sure not to get any directly on them.
4) Sing Christmas Carols
Christmas songs have great power to restore Christmas magic. If possible, ring bells while singing. Some songs that have been extra effective in helping our elves include:
🔔 Jingle Bells
🔔 Deck the Halls
🔔 We Wish You a Merry Christmas
🔔 Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
🔔 Up On The House Top
🔔 Frosty the Snowman
You can even leave Christmas music playing near the injured elf.
5) Perform an Act of Kindness
Nothing boosts Christmas spirit more than giving and helping others. Bake cookies for a neighbor, clean up your toys around the house, pick up trash at the park, pay for someone's coffee... There are so many ways to show kindness every day!
6) Sweets
Elves love sweets and receiving one will help them feel better quickly. It doesn't have to be much - a bite of cookie, a piece of candy, or a forkful of cake per day can restore your elf's magic beautifully. A tiny cup of hot cocoa is sure to hello them feel better fast. You could even leave a sugar cube or sugar packet if you have nothing else!
7) Write a Letter
Write a letter or card. It can be to the sick elf, to Santa, or even to a friend or family member. As long as it's cheerful and kind, it should help your elf recover quickly.
8) Rest is Best
When you're elf is feeling under the weather, they need rest just like we do. They already should be quarantined somewhere safe if you followed tip #2. Keep them warm by leaving blankets or towels nearby or have an adult carefully put them on top of the elf. A small pillow made of folded up napkins or tissues will help you elf feel comfortable. Turning on a Christmas movie while they rest will give them something to focus on until they feel better.
If you follow these steps, your elf should be back to their happy, silly self in no time!
